How does an engineer sell?

I have been a mechanical engineer all my life and now I have to sell as well. There seems to be so many things to think about, what should I do first?

Re: How does an engineer sell?

Hi Fritz

This is a tough one. I see you are already doing the sales coaching sessions so you have made a start. How is it going?

The main difference between Engineering and Sales is the Customer. If you can get to see your customer base as often as possible. Focus on their needs and make sure you are satisfying those needs you are half way home.

Many people outside sales seem to think that selling is all about talking. This is not true. Selling is all about listening. Listen carefully to what the customer is asking for. Make sure your customer knows that you care.

There are many more skills to consider and we will be going over them over the coming months but Listening to and caring for your customers has got to be the most important thing you can do.

Good luck with it all.
